Course Description

RBM is a management strategy by which all actors ensure that their processes, products and services contribute to the achievement of desired results (outputs, outcomes and higher level goals or impact). The actors in turn use information and evidence on actual results to inform decision making on the design, resourcing and delivery of programmes and activities as well as for accountability and reporting.
RBM is seen as taking a life-cycle approach. It starts with elements of planning, such as setting the vision and defining the results framework. Once a set of results is established, implementation starts and monitoring becomes an essential task to ensure results are being achieved. M&E provide invaluable information for decision-making and lessons learned for the future. (Source: UNDG Results-Based Management Handbook 2011)

After this training, participants will:

  • Understand the philosophy and principles of RBM
  • Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Logical Framework Approach (LFA)
  • Be able to use the Logical Framework Approach in their own fields of work for the planning, implementation and monitoring of projects
  • Understand how to apply Results-Based Management throughout the project cycle (identification – formulation – implementation – monitoring/evaluation and reporting)

Methodology

Emphasis is on practical skills. Plenary presentation, group work and practical tools will be supplemented with activities each participant will develop and implement in their work. Only a small number (10-15) of participants will be admitted for the training to ensure quality time utilization for each participant and enough chance to exchange practical experiences with other participants. Presentations, guided dialogue, group discussions, group work, case studies using real life examples from the participants, exercises, and cross-team coaching will also be used.
